KEOTA – The Montezuma Bravettes 8th grade girls basketball team scored a 40-17 win over Keota on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Keota battled early to a 4-4 tie but the Bravettes would dominate with strong defenses and excellent shooting.
The Bravettes had a strong lead 24-6 at the half. The second half was more sluggish but Monte won by 23 points.
The Bravettes shot 18-43 from the field for 42% (highest of the season). The Eagles were 8-33 for 24%. The battle of the boards was a push at 26-26. Monte had 12 turnovers while Keota had 21.
Jadyn Sharer was on fire. She had 20 points at halftime and finished with 26 on 12-21 shooting including two 3-pointers. She also had 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 blocks.
Isabella Roorda had 6 points & 4 steals. Jordan Ranfeld dominated the boards with 9 and added 4 points. Alivia Cline did a fine job running the point. She had 2 points and 7 assists.
Madison Van Zee hit 2 free throws for 2 points. Laila Kercheval blocked a shot.
The Bravettes are 4-1 at the end of December. They will travel to New Sharon on January 13 to face North Mahaska in a meeting of two of the top junior high teams in the South Iowa Cedar League.
