Montezuma’s eighth grade volleyball girls trailed HLV 19-24 in the first set, then Chloe Snook stepped back to serve.
“She served out the game for a 26-24 win,” Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson said.
That was the spark that started the Bravettes to a 2-1 match win – the same thing accomplished by the seventh graders on Monday, Sept. 20.
“That takes a great deal of composure from a young athlete, as well as her team to stay in it and be aggressive with its play,” Carlson said.
Scores for the eighth grade were 26-24, 25-12 and 12-25.
“The girls communicated rather well and were able to to set up a lot of balls, but still trailed,” Carlson said of that first set.
“After the first set, the girls were able to roll in the second before dropping the third,” said the coach.
“The seventh grade squad played a developing group from HLV and did a lot of great things again,” Carlson said.
Scores for Montezuma were 25-9, 25-13, and 15-25.
“This group continues to improve and move the ball well,” the coach said. “They need to continue focusing on transitioning between offensive and defensive positions. But, I am proud of the growth with all of the girls,” Carlson said.
“Next, we head to Sigourney to play a squad we have not played during my 12 years of coaching,” Carlson said. “But, it should be another opportunity to get better and have some fun.”
