COLFAX – The Montezuma Bravettes junior high girls basketball teams swept both Colfax-Mingo teams on Monday, NoV. 29.
In the ‘A’ game, Colfax-Mingo jumped to a 2-0 lead as the Bravettes awoke from a Thanksgiving slumber.
Then, the Bravettes went on a 43-0 run.
Monte used its pressure defense and transition offense to overwhelm to the home team.
Monte shot 21-55 for 38%. Colfax was 2-18 for 11%. The Bravettes
outrebounded them 30-22. Monte had 13 turnovers while forcing 38.
Claire Erselius had a super game with 21 points on 9-11 shooting. Claire also had 3 assists and 9 steals.
Vivian Cook shot 6-12 and scored 12 points. Viv also contributed 5 rebounds and had 8 steals.
Haileah Eichenberger scored 4 points. Lindsey Henry had 2 points and 5 assists.
Sydnee Burgess had 2 points and 4 steals. Kieran Perez had 2 points and 5 rebounds. Makenna Warden had 2 points. Lily Ferry had 5 steals.
The Montezuma Bravettes ‘B’ team won 44-4.
Rylee Wolford topped the scoring with 16 points. Krista Cheney had 6 points. Tegan Barnhart, Leah Urfer & Kieran Perez each had 4 points each.
AJ Kercheval and Lauren Daniels scored 2 points each. Letisia Wilson made a free throw.
Both Monte teams move to 2-0 on the season. They host BGM on Monday, Dec. 6 and North Mahaska Dec. 7.
