Montezuma’s junior high volleyball teams opened their seasons at home by splitting with Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The eighth graders won two of three sets.
The seventh graders dropped two of three sets.
8th Grade: 25-22, 25-12, 20-25
“Even after 13 years (of coaching), it amazes me how quickly the first junior high volleyball match comes up on the schedule,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.
“It is important for the girls to be ready to go. But it is also a challenge with limited time and exposure from so many girls,” Carlson said.
“The girls came out a little slow, but started getting after every ball, serving well and setting the pace,” said the coach.
“I am proud of how much this group has improved in just their second year of volleyball. They continue to learn about the different roles and understand the coverages necessary to be successful.”
7th Grade: 25-23, 22-25, 14-25
“This team is only a few practices into their volleyball careers and the nerves were evident,” Carlson said. “They were able to put everything together and various points in the match. They learned many valuable volleyball skills and rules that can only be taught during real-game experience.”
OVERALL – “I am very proud of both teams,” Carlson said. “I know girls on both teams want to do better and they will continue to work hard and achieve the skills needed to be great teammates and volleyball players.”
