COLFAX – Both Montezuma junior high volleyball teams came home victorious in their first matches of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The seventh graders were 3-0 winners over Colfax-Mingo. Scores were 25-16, 25-7 and 25-19.

The eighth grade girls scored a 2-1 win. The counts were 25-19, 25-8 and 17-25.

The first match of the season can always be a stressful event, but our goal is to grow and focus on what we can control,” said Bravettes Coach Megan Carlson.

The girls were excited and came ready to play,” she said.

The eighth grade team had a solid serving and passing performance that helped them to set the pace in their games,” Carlson said. “They need to continue to work together and not make things easy for the opponent.”

The seventh grade squad was very nervous, but did so many great things,” said the coach. “This group knows it has a lot to learn, but the girls work hard, help each other and never quit.”

With only a few days of practice, the girls had limited time together on the court and that was apparent at times,” Carlson said.

However, this group is filled with hard workers that are kind and willing to learn more,” she added. “I am excited to watch both of these groups grow throughout the season.”
