The Montezuma Bravettes hosted North Mahaska on Tuesday, December 3. These are two of the top junior high teams in the conference, so we looked forward to a great game.
The Bravettes and the Warhawks delivered with a super game.
Early on, both teams did good things and showed signs of nervousness. At the end of the first, the teams were tied at 7-7.
Action in the 2nd quarter was intense and tension-filled. North Mahaska took at 13-12 lead to the break.
Both teams scored more often in the 3rd quarter. It was an they 11-11 quarter, so, the Warhawks had a 24-23 lead.
North Mahaska took control early in the 4th and had a 31-26 lead with 4 minutes to go. But, the Bravettes rallied with three big free throws from Isabella Roorda and Ashlee Eilander.
Eilander also had two big baskets. Alivia Cline hit big shots late to give the Bravettes the lead.
But NM rallied behind a big 3-point hoop and 2 clutch drives to win, 39-38.
The Bravettes shot 13-44 from the field for 30%. The Warhawks shot 15-46 for 33%. Monte was 11-26 from the free throw line while North Mahaska was 7-15. Monte won the battle of the boards 41-31. The Bravettes turned it over 21 times while the Warhawks had 18.
Jadyn Sharer led the scoring with 12 points including a 3-point basket. She also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Ashlee Eilander was dominant in the paint. She had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Isabella Roorda had 9 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Alivia Cline had 4 points and 3 assists. Shiressa Wetering had 1 point and 7 rebounds. Ellen Cook had 1 point.
In the B-Game, Monte won 10-6 in 2 quarters. Ava Pargeon had 4 points. Elizabeth DeJong, Makenna Johannes & Addy Probasco had 2 points each.
COMING UP – The Monte A & B teams are both 2-1. The next game will be on Monday, December 9 at home vs BGM.
