Joey Kercheval shoots at nationals

Montezuma graduated senior Joey Kercheval competed over the July 10-11 weekend in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program nationals in Marengo, Ohio, a contest he fared well in a year ago.

You’ll recall that Joey won national championships last summer in the Center Fire Pistol and 1911 Pistol contests, in the high school division.

He placed third in the Rifle-Iron Sight division.

Reports are that Joey shot well again this year.

We don’t know how well yet. The competition continues through July 17.

While in Ohio, representatives of the Montezuma Shooting Sports Club learned that three student-athletes in the program earned $500 scholarships.

The three are Alex Cheney, Michael De Jong and Gavin Tindle.

We’ll let you know when we found out if Joey medaled in his final high school shoot.
