Johnson goes ‘yard’ twice; Braves win

NORTH ENGLISH – Cam Johnson homered twice in the first three innings and Montezuma rolled to a 19-5 victory over English Valleys on a hot, muggy Tuesday evening, July 7.

The Braves scored eight runs in the third inning to take a 12-0 lead. They scored six more in the fifth of the five-inning contest.

Johnson wound up three-for-three at the plate, with his two homers helping him to six runs batted in on the night.

Kodie Strong was two for three, with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Owen Cook hit a double, drove in two runs, and stole a base.

Brayden Arendt singled in two runs, and stole a base.

Cole Watts stroked a double and drove in a run.

Eddie Burgess had one hit and stole a base.

Also getting a single for the Braves was Preston Hirsch.

Cook was the winning pitcher, going the first four innings. He scattered two hits and allowed two runs, both earned. He walked three, hit two and struck out one.

Arendt finished up for Montezuma, going an inning with two runs allowed, both earned. He struck out one.

It was the regular season finale for Montezuma, which closed that portion of its year at 5-6.

English Valleys was at 4-7 with Tuesday’s result.

JV BOYS DEFEATED – English Valleys prevailed 6-2 in junior varsity play.

UP NEXT – The Braves move into post-season play at home against Sigourney on Saturday, July 11. First pitch: 7 p.m.
