Montezuma’s junior high ‘B’ boys basketball team had some fun during a 16-10 win over English Valleys in a two quarters game on Thursday, Jan. 21.
“The boys came out with great energy,” said Coach John Beck.
“Offensively, we got some good looks at the basket and we took care of the ball. Last game (Belle Plaine), it seemed there was a lid on the basket, so it was nice to see some shots go in.”
Luke Brennan scored eight points and had six steals.
“I thought we shared and moved the ball a lot better,” Beck said.
“Defensively we really got on the glass, which was good to see,” Beck said. “Our guards pressured well and caused turnovers which helped our offense.”
Briar Simpson had five rebounds, while Spencer Ross, Blake Smith and Isaac Wedgewood had three each.
“In both games today we were great teammates,” Beck said. “I saw a lot of cheering from the bench and helping our teammates off the ground, older guys coaching and teaching younger guys. When we start doing that, the game is fun and the kids are really buying into that.”
