SIGOURNEY – The Montezuma junior high girls track team displayed its considerable athletic ability and the Bravettes needed it to hold off North Mahaska to win the SICL meet on Tuesday, May 10.
Montezuma had a 132-125 edge over second-place North Mahaska.
Chloe Snook scored 38 points – just two short of the maximum, by winning three individual events and placing second in a fourth.
Even without her speed, Montezuma had the depth and talent to score heavily in the relays. The Bravettes won one relay and placed second in five others.
Snook won the 200- and 400-meter dash events and the long jump. She was second in the 100.
Sydnee Burgess won the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches, and was backed by a fourth-place finish by teammate Lily Ferry, who cleared 4-6.
Burgess also placed second in the 200-meter hurdles.
