Junior high softball girls learn and grow

By Coach Janel Burgess

The Montezuma Junior High Softball program had a tremendous year of growth and enjoyment with an eager group of 23 sixth through eighth grade students.

Most team members had not played softball for more than two years, which gave us so much room to grow.

Each young lady who wore the Bravettes uniform this season was able to learn softball skills, learn life skills and most importantly, interact with friends while making new friends.

The team had six 8th graders, eight 7th graders and nine 6th graders who competed each and every day.

Because of our numbers, we broke up into an A-team and a B-team which allowed the young ladies to develop camaraderie and a sense of roles for each team. Some Bravettes played for both teams as needed.

The team had goals daily, while playing, to keep players focused.

Key points were using two hands to catch the ball, staying disciplined in the batter’s box and picking up each other when there was a challenging play.

Each player made an effort to improve in these areas as we went through the season.

The junior high Bravettes softball team members have many exciting moments ahead of them on the diamond. Each young lady has grown and with more practice and hard work more success will come.
