VICTOR – Montezuma’s junior varsity boys played a solid end-to-end game and beat HLV, 33-27, on Friday evening, Jan. 31.
The Braves trailed 9-7 after one quarter, but led 16-11 at halftime after holding the Warriors to two points in the second quarter. The Braves led 23-20 through three, then finished it out with a 10-7 final period.
Cameron Johnson led Montezuma with 12 points and six rebounds.
Gavin Strong had eight points, four assists, three rebounds and three steal.
Colton Benson scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot.
Camden Michalek had six points, on a pair of three-point baskets.
Connor Van Zee snagged four rebounds.
Maguire DeJong had three steals and three deflections.
The Braves held their own on the boards, as each team had 30 rebounds. Each team also had 16 turnovers.
Montezuma shot better from the field, .382 to .250.
