A solid first half for the Montezuma JV girls basketball team morphed into a great second half as the Bravettes beat Colo-Nesco 46-21 at home on Thursday evening, Jan. 21.
The Bravettes, up 17-12 at halftime, outscored the Royals 29-9 in the second half of play.
“We’ve come a heck of a long way,” said Bravettes Coach Kevin Gartman.
“I have to give Colo-Nesco credit for being one of the best defensive groups we’ve seen all year,” Gartman said. “For our girls to come and execute, particulary after halftime adjustments, the way that they did?”
“I’m beyond pleased as a coach,” he said.
Alivia Cline led Montezuma with 15 points, five steals and three assists.
Kallie Robison had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Jadyn Sharer scored nine points and had three steals.
Ashlee Eilander had seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
Montezuma shot .354 from the field and limited Colo-Nesco to .151.
“So many things to be happy about tonight!” Gartman said.
“The JV girls are now 6-7 on the year with four games left. They have three next week, against Lynnville-Sully, HLV and BGM,” Gartman said, “then Grundy Center on Feb. 9.”
