JV girls find ways to beat Earlham

By Coach Kevin Gartman

EARLHAM – The Bravettes JV team beat Earlham 35-21 in the first game of a girls doubleheader on Friday night, Jan. 3.

In a battle with both teams playing strong defense throughout, the Bravettes’ offense moved the ball well and saw a few quarters of basketball with good looks offensively, but shots at the rim didn’t fall.

The Bravettes had to turn to their outside shooting game and free throw shooting to pull away, coming away with the 14-point victory.

Kierstyn Price, driving the baseline here during action last season, led the JV Bravettes against Earlham with 17 points and seven rebounds. (Allyson Fillmore file).

Montezuma made just 12 turnovers compared to 24 by Earlham. The Bravettes also were three-for-six from behind the arc.

Montezuma outscored Earlham 13-3 in the second quarter to take an 18-6 halftime lead. It was 30-12 through three periods.

Kierstyn Price led Bravettes scorers with 17 points that included three-for-five three-point shooting. She also went six-for-six from the free throw line, pulled down seven rebounds and had two steals. Madison Johannes scored seven points, had four assists and seven steals.
