Montezuma’s JV girls basketball team hasn’t had many opportunities to play a complete game this season.

But the Bravettes got one Monday night, Jan. 16, at home, and took advantage by beating Moravia 58-19.

The layoff hasn’t stopped the girls from working hard in practice and taking advantage of any quarters (of playing time) they have been getting,” said Assistant Coach Tim Burgess.

Jordan Ranfeld led Bravettes scoring with 13 points.

Claire Erselius scored 11 and had four steals. Izzy Roorda had 11 points and went three-for-three on treys.

Alivia Cline scored eight points and had four steals.

Ashlee Eilander scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.

Harlea Pargeon and Lindsay Henry also pounded the boards, with seven and six rebounds, respectively.

The girls’ defense continues to grow into what we want within our program,” Burgess said. “The terminology, schemes, etc., are all becoming more second nature to them. And, this group continues to be more physical than they were initially this November.”

Offensively, this group are demonstrating the selfless mentality we want in our program,” Burgess said. “You can see from the stats the balance they demonstrated on the court.”

It was great to see our kids embrace the opportunity to play, especially on day when we didn’t have school,” the coach said. “Sometimes, those can be a challenge, but it wasn’t in this one.”
