BAXTER – Katie Reynolds’ feet were flying.
The Bravettes were moving pretty well in all of the sprint relays, for that matter – events Coach Megan Carlson is trying to get in place as the track and field season is rapidly maturing.
Reynolds was in on four winning events as the Bravettes placed third in a six-team field at the Lady Bolts Invitational.
Collins-Maxwell won with 125 points with Baxter, a school they used to partner with, second at 115. Next came Montezuma at 98, finishing just ahead of the 89 put up by SICL rival Colfax-Mingo.
The meet was run on a sun-splashed Thursday afternoon, April 22.
Reynolds won both short dashes, the 100 in 13.68 and the 200 in 28.35. She anchored two winning relays, the 4×100 and the 4×200. Madison Van Zee, Izzy Roorda and Coral Lowry were Reynolds’ accomplices in the 4×100. Roorda, Allyson Larmore and Van Zee joined her in the 4×200.
“After the weather canceled our meet on Tuesday and several girls were competing in State FFA, the Bravettes were ready to compete,” Carlson said.
“We are entring the championship portion of our season, where we need to figure out where to put girls for the conference and regional meets.”
The Bravettes got a solid win in the 4×800 from Alivia Cline, Madison Johannes, Elise Boulton and Mia Boulton.
Carlson entered two teams in each of the sprint relays, and judging from times, there’s still some jockeying for berths on those squads.
Elise Boulton placed second in the 1,500-meter run, and third in the 800.
Alivia Cline came home with a second in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Bravettes were second in the 4×400 relay. Runners were Van Zee, Laila Kercheval, Cline and Mia Boulton.
Montezuma got a third-place finish in the 1,600 distance medley from Dylan Holland, Madison Johannes, Mia Boulton and Elise Boulton.
“I thought the girls ran with a lot of grit despite being tired from illness sweeping through the school and recovering from a very successful State FFA,” Carlson said.
“We were able to come away with a third-place finish. The lessons were learned here will help the team grow and improve in the next few weeks,” she said.
