DES MOINES – Montezuma junior Katie Reynolds ran well in both short dashes, but was not able to advance beyond the prelims during her Class 1A state track meet experience on Thursday, May 20.

Reynolds tied for 18th in the 200-meter dash and was 22nd in the 100.

A pre-race stretch for Katie Reynolds.

Her clocking in the 200 was 27.53, just off from her season-best of 27.51. Reynolds came into the meet as the 14th-fastest of 24 qualifiers, based on her performance in the qualifying meet.

In the 100, Reynolds clocked 13.52 and placed 22nd overall.

Katie had a season-best of 13.0. She qualified for state at the same 13.52 she clocked on Thursday, and was the 23rd qualifier. Thus, she moved up one place in the final standings. “The weather was not ideal on the first day of the State Track Meet,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.

More stretching as Katie gets set.

UP NEXT at state is Dylan Holland’s competition in the discus. It starts at 3 p.m. Friday, May 21, and runs until conclusion. Brydon Henning, Montezuma’s male qualifier, runs on Saturday.
