MONTEZUMA – The Keota girls left no doubt.
Taking a 6-2 lead through five innings, the Eagles hit the Bravettes with five more in the sixth inning and left town with an 11-2 win on Friday evening, May 30.
Keota outhit the Braves 9-3, and Montezuma compounded its problems with six errors.
Chloe Snook hit a triple for Montezuma and scored a run.
Mya Smothers also tripled and scored a run.
Kamryn Schmidt drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Lauryn Larmore had one hit and stole a base.
Keota’s pitcher showed control, issuing no bases on balls while striking out five.
Leah Urfer pitched all six innings for Montezuma, allowing 9 hits and four earned runs. She walked three and struck out seven.
The Bravettes fell to 2-1, while Keota got its first win against two losses.
COMING UP – It’s a busy week for the Bravettes and Braves. The Bravettes have six games scheduled, while the Braves have five. Both teams open Monday, June 2, at North Mahaska.
