Keota hands Braves another tough loss

KEOTA – Again it was close, but no prize for the Montezuma Braves.

The team has been playing good baseball against decent teams – just coming up short. As was the case in a 3-2 loss at Keota on Friday evening, June 20.

The Braves scored 2 runs in the second inning and tried various ways to add on to that 2-0 lead, but Keota always had an answer. The Eagles finally broke through to take the win.

Montezuma had four hits, received four bases on balls and had two batters hit by pitches. The Braves were running, stealing five bases in eight attempts.

Easton Hudnut drove in a run when he walked with the bases loaded.

Getting one hit each were Gavin Wilcox, Luke Erselius, Rett Pargeon and Nolan Hudnut.

The Braves were guilty of just two errors.

Erselius pitched 5.2 innings, delivering to the plate 111 times during that span. He gave up 10 hits, 3 runs, all of which were earned. Luke walked three and struck out 10.

Easton Hudnut pitched 0.1 innings and struck out one.

The Braves fell to 4-8 on the season.

Keota moved to 6-7.

UP NEXT – The Braves are scheduled to host North Mahaska on Monday, June 23.
