Kotar’s big effort keys JV win

KEOTA – Montezuma rode a strong performance by Nik Kotar to a 59-53 JV boys basketball win over Keota on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Kotar poured in 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Braves.

Montezuma led 13-10 after one quarter and 36-25 at halftime. Keota closed to within five points at 49-44 after three periods, but got no closer.

Kotar, who is expected to be eligible for varsity play later this month, was 13-for-21 from the field, including five-for-10 from behind the arc. He also had four assists and three steals.

Kohen Holland contributed nine points and four rebounds to the winning effort.

Jack Erselius and Alex Black each scored six points and Carter Michalek scored five.

The Braves led 24-21 in rebounding.

Montezuma shot .585 from the field, and limited Keota to .420 shooting.
