The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade girls team traveled to Sully to face the Hawks.
These two teams faced off in the first game of the season. In that game the Hawks, dominated the Bravettes winning 28-15. But, the Monte girls had been working hard preparing for the rematch.
Lynnville Sully entered the game undefeated and the top 7th grade in the SICL.
Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter as defenses dominated. Monte got a basket from Makenna Warden to give the Bravettes a 2-1 lead.
The Hawks exploded in the 2nd quarter with 10 points. Claire Erselius got Monte’s only basket as the Bravettes trailed 11-4 at the half.
The 3rd quarter favored Lynnville-Sully early as they got to as much as an 11-point lead. The Bravettes got baskets from Lily Ferry and Makenna Warden. Sully led 17-8 heading to the 4th quarter.
The Bravettes had a big 4th quarter as they cut
the lead to one point late. Claire Erselius and Chloe Snook each had 2 baskets. Lindsey Henry & Makenna Warden each scored a basket.
But, the Hawks held off the Bravettes to win 23-20. It was a very exciting game and both teams did many good things. They should both be fun to watch as they progress.
Montezuma was 10-38 from the field for 26% and 0-4 from the free throw line.
Lynnville-Sully was 7-27 from the field for 26% and 9-11 from the free throw line. Montezuma out-rebounded the Hawks 26-23.
Monte had 27 turnovers and Sully had 30. The biggest stat in the game was the Hawks’ ability to make free throws at 82%.
Claire Erselius had her best game of the season. She scored 6 points had 3 assists and 5 steals. Makenna Warden was solid inside with 6 points.
Chloe Snook played strong defense and scored 4 points. Lily Ferry hustled her way to 2 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and a block. Lindsey Henry had 2 points and a block. Haileah Eichenberger had 3 steals.
The Bravette 7th grade falls to 2-3 on the season.
