L-S tags Braves with 17-4 defeat

Lynnville-Sully was projected to be the baseball team to beat in the South Iowa Cedar League, and the Hawks showed why on Tuesday, May 30, in Montezuma.

The 7-0 Hawks pounded out 18 hits in a 17-4 win over the Braves.

For Montezuma, Garrett Watts, Broox Stockman and Jack Erselius each had two hits, and Colton Benson drove home a run.

Cruz De Jong and Jack Erselius each stole a base.

Luke Erselius started on the mound for Montezuma and worked four innings. He walked two and struck out two. Jack Erselius and Isaac Wedgewood also pitched for the Braves.

Connor Maston went five-for-five for Lynnville-Sully, with a double and two runs batted in.

Lannon Montgomery was three-for-four, and pitched the first 3.1 innings.

Corder Noun Harder stole five bases – of Lynnvile-Sully’s total of 16.

The Braves fell to 1-2 on the young season.
