Last link Saturday for MHS: HLV Warriors

The conference basketball season is down to the last SICL game for Montezuma’s girls and boys teams.

That will be Saturday evening, Feb. 6, at home, with HLV as the opponent.

The girls have already locked up their conference crown, while the boys need to win to clinch no worse than a tie for their title.

GIRLS

The Bravettes are 18-1 overall and 15-0 against the league. HLV totes in an 8-9 mark, which includes 6-9 in the SICL.

Montezuma was a 60-24 winner when they played Dec. 8 in Victor.

Karlee Timm is a strong player for the Warriors. She scores 13.4 points per game and shoots 48 percent from the field. She’s also a top rebounder at 11.4 per game, and dishes 4.1 assists per outing.

Jasmine Young scores 7.2 per game for the Warriors.

The Bravettes, who have won them all after losing their season opener, have four players averaging in double figures.

They are Elise Boulton (16.1), Mia Boulton (12.2), Shanae Wetering (11.6) and Dylan Holland (11.0).

Holland, who announced Thursday for Simpson College, also averages 9.1 rebounds and Wetering grabs 4.5 off the boards per game.

Elise Boulton averages 6.0 assists.

BOYS

HLV is 5-12 overall and 3-9 in league play. Montezuma is 16-2 and 14-1.

Montezuma won 89-52 when they played Dec. 8.

Grant Hall averages 16.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Beau York scores 10.1 points and pulls down 5.5 rebounds.

Landon Hall is a 7.8 per game scorer, and Brayen Shaull averages 3.9 assists.

The Braves, one of the state’s top offensive teams, have been improving their defense all year and especially since the second half of the season return of 6-4 post forward Eddie Burgess.

Trey Shearer is a 27.6 per game scorer, shooting 58 percent from the field, including 48 percent from three-point range. He also averages 4.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds.

Cole Watts scores 19.8 points, and averages 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Burgess scores 13.2 points (on .737 shooting) and averages 12.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists. His season-high in rebounds, 20, came in the Braves’ most recent game against Lynnville-Sully.

Masin Shearer averages 7.2 points and 3.2 assists for Montezuma.

Both teams have non-conference match-ups at Grundy Center remaining, and the boys will be playing at home against Gladbrook-Reinbeck before tourney play starts in Montezuma.
