Late burst separates EV from Bravettes

English Valleys scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to pull away from the Bravettes in a 14-9 victory on Wednesday evening, June 12.

The Bears took a 6-3 lead in the second inning and maintained a lead until the Bravettes closed the gap to 10-8 with three runs in the sixth. Then came the four-run rally by the visitors.

The Bravettes continued to make contact at the plate, lining 10 hits in the game. Montezuma also got a seven-inning pitching performance from Syd Burgess.

But Montezuma was charged with eight errors on defense.

Four Bravettes had two hits each. Chloe Snook also scored two runs and stole a base. Madison Van Zee drove in a run with one of her two hits.

Ellen Cook drove in three runs with her pair of hits.

Mya Smothers had two hits, a run batted in and two stolen bases.

Three players had one hit each. Vivian Cook drove in a run with hers. The other two were by Izzy Roorda and Burgess.

Kam Schmidt was credited with a run batted in, and Kelsie Mostek stole a base.

Burgess’ complete game incuded a yield of 10 hits and 14 runs, but just five of them were earned. She walked six and struck out four.

The Bravettes fell to 4-6 on the season. English Valleys left town with a 10-2 mark.
