Late hit takes down the Braves, 2-1

MARENGO – One of these nights, the Braves will win a baseball game. They’re playing well enough now for that to happen.

It almost happened on a hot Monday, June 13, against Iowa Valley.

The Tigers made a late-game, two-RBI hit stand for a 2-1 win over Montezuma.

The Braves brought their offense – they had eight hits including a double – but Iowa Valley played some tough defense in key situations.

Jack Erselius went 2×3 at the plate for Montezuma.

Owen Cook pitched a solid game for the Braves, working six innings, scattering five Tiger hits amid no walks and 11 strikeouts.

The Braves made just two errors on the night, further indication that the team’s defense is still getting better.

The win lifted Iowa Valley to 3-10 on the season.

Montezuma’s record stands at 0-9.
