Late score spoils Robison’s one-hitter, 1-0

COLFAX – Colfax-Mingo pushed across a run with two outs – in the bottom of the ninth inning – to take a 1-0 win over Montezuma in a great early-season softball game on Friday, May 27.

A heartbreaking loss for the Bravettes? Well, it’s a little early in the season for that. Montezuma did a lot of things right – including playing tough defense – and did just about everything except win the game.

Pitchers Kallie Robison of Montezuma and Kylie Doty of Colfax-Mingo were locked in a nine-inning death spin.

Robison allowed just one hit. Doty yielded five Bravettes singles, but the Bravettes were not able to crack the Tigerhawk defense for a score.

Each pitcher struck out eight batters.

Colfax-Mingo did draw two walks, and added a sacrifice bunt. Doty drove in the Tigerhawks’ run without getting a hit.

The Bravettes put down two sacrifice bunts and drew three walks. But the Colfax-Mingo defense was air-tight. It assisted 14 of 27 putouts.

Colfax-Mingo went to 2-1 on the season, while the Bravettes left Colfax at 1-2.

UP NEXT – Montezuma is at North Mahaska on Tuesday, May 31.
