Let Freedom Ring is Saturday, July 2

After a successful first “Booster Bash” of the summer, the Montezuma Community Boosters are preparing for “Let Freedom Ring,” the community’s annual Fourth of July event.

It’s like a community-wide block party, and will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, and will run until about 2 p.m.

In the evening, many in the community will adjourn to Lake Ponderosa for fireworks, starting at dusk.

An anchor event will be the annual Montezuma Lions Club’s chicken barbecue, starting at 11 a.m. in Montezuma Memorial Hall. It will continue to about 1:00, or until 880 half chickens have been dispensed.

A feature at the dinner this year will be faster service, to be achieved by two serving lines. Please enter the northeast door – not the front doors. You’ll be able to carry out, or eat inside.

Vendors will have arts and crafts on the square.

There will be a dunk tank by the Montezuma Dance Team.

The American Legion will serve watermelon.

There will be cotton candy, kettle korn and an assortment of goodies for sale.

There will be a bouncy house.

The big parade starts at 10 a.m., with staging to begin at 8:30 at Montezuma Community Schools.

Grand Marshal is Dr. George Salnave, pastor of First Presbyterian Evangelical Chuch, who is retiring later this year.

Dr. Salnave and Linda Hamilton have announced the Let Freedom Ring parade for years on the public address system, and she will do so as a solo act this year.

This story probably isn’t a complete listing of everything that will be at Let Freedom Ring. Last-minute surprises are being added – so come on out – be surprised!
