Lions buy 220 padded chairs for auditorium

The Montezuma school’s auditorium (formerly the south gym) has undergone an extensive renovation in recent months, and the Montezuma Lions Club has made a major donation to put “frosting on the cake.”

At a cost of $4,840.00 the Lions have paid for 220 deluxe, fabric-covered padded folding chairs for the auditorium floor level seating. The school district has purchased seven dollies for storage of the new chairs.

MONTEZUMA LIONS CLUB officers represented their club Oct. 30 to formally present a check for $4,840 to the Montezuma school to cover the cost of 220 new padded folding chairs purchased for floor level seating in the school auditorium. Receiving the check is school Supt. (and Lion) Dave Hoeger, and holding one of the chairs at right is Principal Tim Hoffmann (also a Lion). School Supt. Dave Hoeger stated, “The Montezuma School District is very grateful for the Lions’ donation of these padded chairs to be used in our newly-renovated auditorium.  The chairs will provide our guests with a much more comfortable chair when they come to support our students in their plays and concerts.  We are very happy to recognize this donation with a sticker on each chair thanking the Lions for their donation.”

Hoeger added, “I am very happy that the Lions and the school district support each other in our efforts to help the Montezuma community.  The school district will continue to work with the Lions and other organizations in the city to be as effective and supportive as possible for our citizens.”

The Lions’ fundraising activities made the chairs donation possible. The most recent example is the pancake breakfast held Oct. 26 that was attended by over 380 people. A part of that event was a drawing for a deluxe shotgun and for a gun scope. Drawing chairman Larry Weeks reported the winner of the shotgun was a hunter from Indiana who hunts on the Roger Iverson farm. The scope was won by Doug Boyd of New Sharon.

Bushong Construction began work in mid-July on the $620,000 auditorium renovation, and finished except for some details just in time for the student performance of their fall musical – with some preparations for it shown. Many of the stage improvements are behind the scenes including ceiling reinforcements and not only new curtains but a variety of new rigging options according to School Supt. Dave Hoeger. He noted that the former gym floor will be refinished in the near future.
