The Montezuma Lions Club honored two local businesses at its annual Christmas dinner and program Monday evening, Dec. 12 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Members of the church’s choir prepared and served the meal and provided part of the evening’s entertainment. A trio of Lions headed by Mike Princer grilled pork chops for the dinner. Lions Past District Governor Boyd Sparks was master of ceremonies.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a framed, personalized certificate of appreciation to one Montezuma business owner and the announcement for later presentation for another, for their service to the community.

Shirley Dunham, publisher of “The Record” newspaper, was present to receive the “Thank You” recognition from the Lions club. Mike and Shelly Taylor, owners of Montezuma Super Valu, were unable to be present to receive their “Thank You” but it was presented the following day at their store by a delegation of Lions.

A Lions spokesperson said, “Both honored businesses are not only providing invaluable services to the community; they have played significant roles behind the scenes assisting the Lions with their projects.”

Lions club member and ventriloquist Ted Morelock, and his “accomplice,” Buford, provided entertainment and a “reason for the season” message before the meal and again at the end of the event.

Other entertainment included music by an ecumenical bell choir, and a humorous and lively, animated “doo-wop” vocal number sung by Methodist choir members.

Carol Behounek directed both music groups.
