Where were you the week of April 23, 1970?

Roger Cox, a Montezuma High School senior, has been appointed to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead when you go to bed this Saturday night as daylights savings time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, April 26.

Let’s Keep Montezuma Green” is the Jaycees motto as they begin their second year of planting trees in the community.

Mrs. Bob Thomason is pictured in the Republican grimacing while her son Eric bravely watches the air gun at the Rubella clinic held at the school.

A Deep River girl, Edythe Stoeker, has been named winner of one the two $250 nursing school scholarships give by the IFWC.  Stoeker is a senior at BGM.

Mayor Hedrick reports the city has received two contributions for “1970 Girls State Basketball Champions” signs to be purchased and erected on the four welcome signs at the entrances to Montezuma.

Mr. & Mrs. Lyle Berry announce the engagement of their daughter, Ellen, to Don Baker.

The first Earth Day was held April 22, 1970, providing a voice to emerging environmental awareness by putting environmental concerns on the front page.

UNI announces that Ronald Schwertfeger of Deep River will student teach at Price Laboratory School in Cedar Falls.  Montezuma’s Elizabeth McKee will do the same at Cedar Falls High School.
