Three candidates file for two school board posts — Bernie Hansen along with incumbents Gordon Braley and Dale McWilliams.

Braves head football coach Darrell Brand invites parents and fans to a football clinic Friday night which will include an intra-squad scrimmage officiated by Francis Freeborn and Bill Bolen.

The protest song “War” by American musician Edwin Starr is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Star Lanes will host seven bowling leagues this fall.

Rex Widmer, president of the Deep River Booster Club, announces Watermelon Day will be held on September 12, featuring free watermelon, sack races, a greased pig contest, and a watermelon seed spitting contest.

Larry Iverson and Rex Johnson will be the “big boys” on the line this year as both weigh in at over 200 pounds. The Braves will open the 1970 football season at Iowa Valley of Marengo Friday, September 11.

Regarding the fact-checking at Drake University, it was Bruce Alexander that made the Dean’s List not brother Gordon. When contacted by reporters, Gordon had this to say, and I quote, “I think I had a GPA of 3.4999, just missing the Dean’s List by 0001. Physical education class pulled me down. Coach told me I run too long in one place.”
