The Montezuma Lions Club donates $4,000 to purchase the land for a senior citizens apartment complex in the south part of town.
While campaigning in Montezuma, Robert Fulton, the Democratic candidate for Iowa governor, met Robert Fulton, the owner of the Montezuma furniture store.
Kevin Gibson, Mark Wiley and Ronnie Taylor each scored a touchdown as Coach Gayle Creswell’s junior high Braves defeated North Mahaska, 18-6. Bob Ahrens led the defensive surge with eight tackles.
Jack Morrissey and Mark VerSteegt paced the Braves to a 4th place finish in the Class D division of the state team mile race at Ames.
Vincent Johnson, James Cook, Wayne Van Ommen, Danny Malloy and Michael LaKose were all released from active military duty.
Lee Sharer’s phenomenal punting and quarterback Bob Buzard’s expert ball handling led the Braves to a 20-0 victory over Williamsburg, a game played in less than ideal weather conditions. The Braves are 3-0 with undefeated BGM coming to town for homecoming.
