Gene Baethke scores the 2-point PAT to give the Braves the win, 8-6, over the BGM Bears.  It was the Braves’ first victory over the long-time Poweshiek County nemesis since 1960. Mark VerSteegt, who also stars on the school’s XC team, made two unassisted tackles on punts in front of a homecoming crowd of 1,989.

First cousins born the same day were big news for the Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Little and Mr. & Mrs. Vincent Johnson families with the arrival of new baby boys, Jeffrey Little and Eric Johnson.

William Van Cleave, MHS ’67, the son of Mrs. Mavis Van Cleave, was named to the Dean’s list at the American Institute for Business in Des Moines, with a 3.6 GPA.

Ronnie Taylor completed a 40-yard TD pass to Marvin Gass to lead Coach Gayle Creswell’s JH Braves to an 18-8 win over a big Williamsburg team.  Sandy Landstrum rushed for 191 yards on 21 carries.

Roger Cox is one of 1,410 freshman cadets who have entered the U. S. Air Force Academy class of 1974.

Montezuma Community Schools will host their annual Open House on October 13.

Jack Morrissey ran the 2-mile in 11 minutes flat to place first at Sigourney.  Bob McLain was third & Randy Dieleman placed fourth.

Bonnie Kay Hardwick marries Russell Allen Cox at the First Christian Church in Gower, Missouri.

Beverly Sampson, MHS ’69, has completed the international travel and secretarial course as a resident student of Humboldt Institute’s Airline and Travel in Minneapolis.

MONTEZUMA MARCHING BLUE & WHITE:  Montezuma School’s Band director John Wagner directed his 74-member marching band to first place at Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. John G. Ahrens are the proud parents of a bouncing baby boy, John Daniel Ahrens, who was born on October 3.  He has one sister, Barbie Jo. 

Jim Grife scores on TD runs of 14 and 8 yards as Coach Tom Tipton’s JV gridders defeat Sigourney 20-6.

John Bushong is one of three 4th graders scheduled to compete in the Jaycees Punt-Pass Finals to be held at halftime of the freshman-sophomore football game Monday night.
