Rock Island Railroad files to abandon Monte line.  The 70-mile line is the transportation lifeline for over 50 shippers and 13 towns and cities from Iowa City to Montezuma.

The Montezuma Town Council has designated certain streets for operators of snowmobiles to use when going to and from the country.  In other matters the Council approved pay raises to $600 per month for Night Marshal Hubert Gray and Street Superintendent Cecil Elliott.

Hoop News:  Braves belt Belle Plaine, 79-39, to push their record to 7-0.  Bravettes fend off previously unbeaten HLV at Ladora.  Both the Braves and Bravettes are ranked #1 in the state!

At the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Roger Cox is a member of the highly-touted Falcon freshman squad.  A former fullback and middle guard in high school, Roger was switched to linebacker by the academy coaches.

Ed Henry continues to torch the lanes at Star Lanes with a high game of 232 and a 614 series.  Pearl Poe was the star of the Quad City League, with a 210 high game and high series of 621.  Jan Hicks bowls a 187 and a 523 series.  Lucille Hoelzle has a high game of 201 on her way to a 522 series.  Danny Anderson takes high game honors in the Tri-County League with a 223.
