A new son joined the Paul Pargeon family for Christmas. He is Wesley Errette, who weighed 6 lbs. and 4 oz. when he was born on December 15. He has a sister, Jana, and a brother, Michael.
Montezuma’s second straight girls state basketball title was rated among the top 15 sports stories in Iowa during 1970 according to a year-end poll of Associated Press sports writers and sports directors.
The state’s #1 sports story in 1970? University of Iowa football coach, Ray Nagel, being fired and then being rehired along with the resignation of athletic director Forest Evasheski.
Coach Carroll Rugland’s Bravettes scored nearly five points per minute in the second quarter of their 103-45 stomping of Iowa Valley at Marengo, for their 72nd consecutive victory.
Montezuma soldier, Pfc. Kenneth Ladely, is on duty in Vietnam. He is a 1968 graduate of MHS.
Specialist Four John E. Montgomery, of Grinnell, has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in connection with action in Vietnam.
Virginia Wasson, Society Editor for the Montezuma Republican, reports the engagement of Denise Phillips to Alan Rabenold.
Suzanne Henry takes high game honors in the Coffee Club league at Star Lanes with a 184. Pat Watts bowls a high series of 511. In the All Star league Dick Arendt bowls at 217 on his way to a 609 series.
