Lions are loose in the streets of Montezuma! They are charging every door! But instead of a roar, citizens will hear a gentle knock as the local group is conducting its first door-to-door light bulb sale.
Three-time class A state champions, the Paullina boys’ basketball team had won 80 straight games before losing on their 81st try the other night. The Bravettes consecutive win streak is currently at 76 with an opportunity to set the record for consecutive victories by an Iowa high school basketball team should they continue their winning ways.
Montezuma Jaycees donated $25 towards the campaign to protest the abandonment of the local rail line by the Rock Island Railroad.
A near-capacity crowd, including 20 men from the Riverview Release Center at Newton, watched in amazement as Kathy Meissner ripped the nets for 44 points in a 92-73 win over Pella Christian.
Don Erquist was installed as Worshipful Master of Lafayette Lodge No. 52 A.F. & A.M. at the organizations’ annual installation of officers. A social hour with refreshments was enjoyed by the lodge members following the installation ceremony.
Hot shooting Peg Watts scores 43 points to lead the Bravettes to a 102-55 win over rival BGM despite Barb Braley’s 25 points for the Bears. Caroline Nervig added 23 for BGM.
BGM’s Paynter dropped in 19 points but the Braves held on to beat the Bears, 61-45.
Denise Rempp will be among the 95 freshmen students of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing who will receive their caps in a ceremony held in Des Moines.
