The Bravettes tied Paullina’s consecutive victory record of 80 as they defeated Sigourney, 113-66, here before a near-capacity crowd. Their next game is at Newhall vs. a tough Benton squad which has lost just twice this year, to  Monte and to Mediapolis.

Farmers can only hire certified youth (ages 14-15), meaning they must have successfully completed a tractor safety course.

Two 8th grade boys, Bob Ahrens and Carl Byers, make the 2nd 9 weeks honor roll with a grade average of better than 95%.

Sigourney’s Rick Mateer, Jack Kitzman, and Don Arduser could not stop the MHS boys’ basketball team, as the Braves rolled to a 103-44 win.

New arrival at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gregory, Story City, is Brett Eugene Gregory, born January 31.

Belle Plaine coach Ron Dick orders his team to hold the ball, taking only two shots the first half.  The result was another win for the Braves, this time 71-19.

Denny Meldrem bowls a high game of 209 on his way to 579 series in the Nite Owl League.  The science teacher, Paul Jones, bowls a 231!  Junior Freeborn bowls a high game of 229 and 3-game series of 579 in the Quad City League.

Bravettes top the century mark for the 9th time and 4th consecutive time in demolishing an Eddyville squad, 101-60.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Dieleman on the arrival of their baby girl, Carey Lynn, born January 26.

University of Missouri head basketball coach, Norm Stewart, stops by the Republican office to visit with publisher John Morrissey.  Current Braves mentor, Dennis Brand, took a class under Stewart when he was the head coach at UNI.

Karen Hall and Julie Harry led the JH Bravettes past BGM, 63-23.

Country music singer-songwriter, Dolly Parton, celebrated her 25th birthday last month, January 19th.

In the Blue & White student newspaper section MHS senior Dave Kercheval lists his pet peeves as long dresses and short hair.
