Mr. & Mrs. Pearl Poe purchased the S & D Appliance business from Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Johnston. The Poe family was busy with the Poe Antenna & Appliance Service as well.

MHS senior David Kercheval has received an appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

The First United Presbyterian Church held two dedication services on Sunday in celebration of their new church building.

The Iowa City-Montezuma Rail Shippers Association protested the abandonment of 63 railroad miles of the Rock Island branch from Hills to Montezuma.

A grand opening was set for the new Automatic Car Wash located on Highway 63 South.

Led by Dan Steffy’s 78, the Braves golf team took third place in the SICL meet.

Coach Robert Albin’s JH track girls won 11 out of 14 events to defeat NM in a dual track meet, 80-26, on the new Montezuma track.

Jeff Stripling shot a one-under 35 on the Pella course.  It was the first below-par round of the year for MHS high school golfers.

Coach Dennis Brand’s boys track team finishes 2nd in the Warhawk Relays with Marv Walker winning the shot.  Doug McKinney placed 4th in the pole vault.

Five Montezuma Boy Scouts, Vernon Sanders, Kevin Brown, Randy Hall, David Erickson, and Jeff Dudley helped plant pine trees at Diamond Lake.

Sophomore waiters and waitresses for the Jr.-Sr. Prom were Doug Baird, David Mann, Mike Mitchell, Michelle Tarvin, Joni Bates, and Gayle Poe.
