Where were you the week of May 28, 1970?
Republican State Senate candidate, Charles Dunham, has campaigned in all twenty communities of the newly-created 34th district. He reports a lack of interest in the June 2nd primary stating, “People have been more concerned with Cambodia, football coaches, and planting beans”.
The high school chorus under the direction of the legendary Mrs. Grace Grosenbach had its final performance. “Modern music” was performed by Dennis Bryan on the drums, with Doug Stanley and Steven McKeag on electric guitars. Ann Hubbard played the organ.
The Bob Beebe family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where Bob has accepted a position as a wheel alignment specialist. Dave Smith will replace Beebe at Vannoy Chevrolet.
MHS will hold its first outdoor commencement. It will take place on the outdoor athletic field at 8 pm Friday night. (Weather permitting).
Four prominent area coaches, Taylor Hayes & Leon Richards from William Penn, along with Glenn Smith, Oskaloosa High School & Dave Bender, Pella High School, will conduct a two-day basketball clinic for boys grades 3 thru 5 at the Oskaloosa YMCA. The cost of $10 includes an evening meal.

Mr. & Mrs. Jack Van Cleave and son, Tom, Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Ferneau and Mrs. Dennis Brand attended the boys’ state track meet in “sunny” Milford, Iowa.
Kathy Braley is one of 27 student nurses who will receive the pins of their profession after taking the Nightingale pledge during ceremonies held at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Cadet John Fitzsimmons was awarded the American Legion Military Excellence Medal in ceremonies at Iowa State University.
Rose Schultz, MHS ’69, has graduated from Iowa Tech at Ottumwa and is now employed at the Ottumwa Courier newspaper.
