David Merck of Deep River has been awarded a $500 scholarship to Iowa State University by the 16 Produce Credit Associations in the state.
Carmen Caves was one of the many helpers at the Barnes City Bible School held 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. daily during the first week of June. Notable attendees included Rodney Ritchie and Lex Ferguson.
ABC’s Marcus Welby, M.D., is the #1-rated prime time television show.
A cooperative Bible school was held by the Presbyterian, Methodist and Christian Churches of Deep River. Some notable attendees included: Jerry Ulin, John McCombs, Dennis Gregson, Donnie Cranston and a whole tribe of Widmers.
Bob Vitera gave up just two hits as the Braves swept Belle Plaine in a double-header. Ken Hopkins and Marvin Walker both walloped homers and Doug McKinney had 3 RBIs.
Former MHS Ag. teacher, Bob Ford, is appointed chief of elementary and secondary services in the Career Education Branch of the DPI in Des Moines. Ford taught in the Montezuma Schools system from 1959-66.
Bill Bolen, MHS ’54, has been named to officiate at the 49th annual National Collegiate Athletic Association track and field championships held at Drake University June 18-20.
Debbie Beyer is the first recipient of the Badger-Trimble Scholarship. The $100 scholarship was presented at class day on the last day of school by Mr. Badger who spent 42 years at Montezuma as teacher, principal, and guidance counselor.
Marlyn Duinink and Don Hall teamed up to lead the Monte Pony Leaguers to a 13-9 win over Victor.
Montezuma Elementary School students Sherri Buzard and Shawn Laffe get permission from County Engineer M. O. Hansen to “test ride” their bikes on the brand new paved Diamond Trail just west of town.
