Montezuma has its very own “Dynamic Duo” – senior basketball players Trey Shearer and Cole Watts – and they’re among 700 high school seniors nominated to not play in the 44th Annual McDonald’s All-American Games this summer.
Wait a minute . . .NOT play?
Right, because there will be no real games this year. Because of COVID.
But, the players were still nominated, because that in itself is an honor.
Shearer and Watts were among 70 players in the Midwest, including just 18 boys in Iowa, nominated to play.
Later this month, the group of nominees will be whittled down to a final 48 – a even bigger honor.
The players are recognized for the “consistent hustle, grind and passion each have brought to the game of basketball over the course of their high school careers,” according to a release from McDonald’s.
