MONTEZUMA HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS TRIVIA … a weekly feature by Al Rabenold.
THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEK’S QUESTION: Congrats to our winners, Liz Henry Stoker & Tracey Tarvin Mostaert. With time running out in the first quarter, Dave Warden banked in a trey from the top of the key to give the Braves a 15-11 lead over Belle Plaine in the opening game of the 1982-83 season.
It was the first 3-point basket in school history. Kindergarten teacher, Kristy Kolbeck, the official scorer, drew a line thru the 2 and circled it, to designate a “3”. The Braves won 21 games that season despite making a total of just nine treys all season. Jeff Debondt led the team with six made treys in 23 games.
THIS WEEK’S SPORTS TRIVIA: Coach Josh Kriegel’s boys are scheduled to compete in the sectional wrestling tournament on February 6, followed by districts the following week with the State Wrestling tournament @ Wells Fargo, February 18-20.
