MONTEZUMA HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS TRIVIA … a weekly feature by Al Rabenold.
THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEK’S QUESTION: Joey Kercheval can trace his Montezuma Braves football roots back four generations. His late great-grandfather, Charles Kercheval, was the Braves’ assistant football coach under the legendary Coach I. A. Gabriel, in the fall of 1940. Joey’s grandfather David Kercheval, played a key role on Coach Darrell Brand’s ’69 Braves squad and proud father, Joel Kercheval, was an all-district lineman for Coach Sinclair’s ’96 team.
THIS WEEK’S SPORTS TRIVIA: With the change in seasons, we will turn our attention to Wrestling and Boys/Girls’ Basketball. MHS wrestling hosted its first meet in January of 1981. Three seasons later Coach Strobel had his first Brave wrestling at Vets Auditorium. Can you name the Braves’ first wrestling state qualifier?
