Never mind that there are just six guys out for high school wrestling in Montezuma at the moment.
They’re out to do a job and improve themselves and each other.
“Even with the low numbers our guys will do whatever it takes to help out each other. There is a lof of positive talk in the (wrestling) room,” said Coach Josh Kriegel.
Returning wrestlers are Marty Knox and Kennen Roadcap.
Knox is a junior who saw some varsity action last season. He is working at 195 pounds.
“Kennen Roadcap is a returning district qualifier as a sophomore last season,” Kriegel said. Roadcap is working at 220 pounds this year.
Ninth-grader Nathan Borton is at 106 pounds.
Gabe Wearmouth, a senior, is at 160, with freshman Brett Plants at 170, and senior Zach Bennett at 182.
Overall, the Braves are a little more experienced than they were a season ago.
“Our guys are excited to get the season started,” Kriegel said.
That varsity season will start on Thursday, Dec. 2, at home, when multiple schools will come in for dual meets. That meet has a 5:30 p.m. start time.
Then on Saturday, Dec. 4, it’s the Montezuma Invitational, an excellent small school meet, starting at 10 a.m.
