Montezuma kept the offensive pressure on North Mahaska, and finally broke through.
The Braves scored all nine of their runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings and beat the Warhawks, 9-3, at home on Wednesday, June 2.
According to Varsity Bound, the stats service, it was Montezuma’s first win against always-tough North Mahaska since 2018.
The Braves will take it, thank you. The win moved Montezuma up to 4-0 on the young season.
North Mahaska fell to 2-3.
Montezuma outhit the Warhawks 12-6, as Owen Cook, (five innings), picked up the win, with two innings of relief from Eddie Burgess.
Cole Watts continued his amazing hitting with a four-for-four game, which included a double. In four games, Watts is 14-for-17, a stunning .824 batting average.
Connor Van Zee was three-for-three, with a double and three runs batted in.
Cook went two-for-four at the dish.
Cam Johnson was one-for-three, with one RBI.
Getting a hit each were Colton Benson and Garrett Watts.
