Missiles vs. tanks at homecoming

Based on what they did last week, it’ll be the air force against the infantry when Montezuma plays Winfield-Mt. Union in the Braves’ homecoming game Friday, Sept. 4, at Badger-Gabriel Field.

Kickoff is planned for 7 p.m.

Last year, the Braves beat the Wolverines 76-48 and both sides passed quite a bit. But the Wolves, 1-8 a year ago, graduated a quarterback who threw for 1,188 yards on the season.

Last week, Winfield-Mt. Union didn’t throw a single pass in rushing to a 44-8 win over Tri-County. The Braves, meanwhile, got 307 throwing yards from Eddie Burgess, who also ran for 109.

Against Tri-County, junior Noah Sparrow rushed 14 times for 184 yards – a 13.1 per carry average, and two touchdowns.

As a team, Winfield-Mt. Union gained 266 rushing yards and averaged 9.5 per carry.

Matt Karadios (55) and Brian Diaz (43) hunker down on defense against Kingsley-Pierson.
