On a warm and windy Monday afternoon, May 9, Montezuma’s high school teams won two more major championships:
The boys golf team captured the SICL meet championship, and;
The girls track team won the Darrell Brand Relays.
Also at the Brand Relays, the boys made a respectable third-place team finish.
Montezuma shot 352 to beat Keota by seven strokes at the conference golf meet.
Eddie Burgess also was meet medalist.
In Montezuma, the girls racked up 150 points to out-distance second-place North Mahaska (112) for the Brand Relays title. It was the second straight team championship for the Bravettes, who won the Rick Wanamaker Invite on Friday.
The Bravettes scored four victories. Katie Reynolds won the 100-meter dash and Ellen Cook took the 3,000-meter run.
Also, the Bravettes won the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.
On the boys’ side, Montezuma put up 92.5 points in its third place finish.
Montezuma won one event – and it was a good one, a season’s best shot put effort of 43 feet, 10 inches, by Nik Kotar.
We’ll have more details about all of these events later on Tuesday and on Wednesday.
