ALBIA – The varsity Bravettes won two matches and lost four at the Albia tournament on Saturday, Aug. 30, in their first volleyball action of the new season.
The Albia tourney is known regionally as one of the better small-school tournies of the early season, drawing teams from respected programs from south central Iowa.
The Bravettes picked up some solid experience which they plan to put to good use.
Sara Bos served 13-for-16, including three aces, in leading Montezuma past Seymour, 2-0.
Lauryn Larmore was 12-for-13 serving, including 4 aces, in leading a 2-1 Bravettes win over Moravia. Burgess had 9 kills for Montezuma.
Larmore also had 20 digs for the Bravette defense.
Annaleece Kercheval had 14 assists in a 2-1 loss to SICL rival North Mahaska. Larmore had 12 digs in this match, while Burgess had 10.
Southeast Warren took a 2-1 win over Montezuma despite 8 kills by Burgess.
Hosting Albia, the largest school in the field, took a 2-0 win over Montezuma. Mya Smothers led the Bravettes with 9 digs, while Larmore had 7.
Grand View Christian took a 2-1 win over the Bravettes. Bos went 10-for-11 serving, with 3 aces.
Larmore had 14 digs, and Smothers had 10.
Montezuma hosted a three-team round robin on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
