Netters show growth in sweep of C-M

COLFAX – Passionate. Intense. Smart.

The coaches used those words to describe the play of the varsity Bravettes during a 3-0 volleyball sweep of Colfax-Mingo on Monday evening, Sept. 28.

Scores for the Bravettes were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-21.

This was a battle of teams that came in unbeaten in South Iowa Cedar League matches.

It turned into the fifth victory in a row for the now 7-4 overall Bravettes.

The coaching staff said the girls are playing with great passion and intensity.

They are not giving up when they get behind or miss a play they think they should have made,” the coaches said. “We like how they are not getting too high or too low on any play.”

The Bravettes were faced with one of the league’s top hitters, Morgan Van Dyke. She managed nine kills – same as teammate Caylee Cunningham – but Montezuma had Ash Krousie with 10 kills and Korrinn Kehoe and Dylan Holland with seven each.

Montezuma was aggressive at the net, part of a stiff defense.

Katie Reynolds, Shanae Wetering and Kierstyn Price all had 11 digs, Krousie had 10 and Allyson Larmore had nine.

Reynolds assisted 26 Bravettes kills, and joined Krousie and Wetering as players with more than a dozen successful serve attempts.

I really love this game! Dylan Holland and Shanae Wetering. (File).

The girls are learning to use knowledge of their opponent and put it into play,” the coaches said.

These are smart kids who love volleyball and it’s reflective in their play right now,” added the coaches.

They are making good decisions, mixing things up and growing not just as athletes but as people. We are really proud of them.”
