No girls’ banquet? Feast on this . .

Elise Boulton . . all-time three-point shooter.

March 27

The COVID-19-forced break in school forced postponement of the basketball banquets at the high school.

But girls’ Coach Janel Burgess sent these numbers and honors along for you to contemplate and enjoy:

I hope you are all staying safe and making the most of this challenging time,” Burgess said. “I know we all miss seeing each other. I have decided to email our awards to you all and we will get together after we are allowed.”

Our Bravettes had a tremendous year. Here are our highlights:”

Our JV team finished undefeated and truly grew as a unit. This is so exciting as we continue to grow as a program,” Burgess said.

The varsity team had these accomplishments:”

State tournament qualifier for the third year in a row.”

SICL Conference champions for the second year in a row.”

Our team was very well-connected and our team records show this. Burgess said.

Below are the team records set during the 2019-2020 season:

66.7 points per game
633 field goals made
231 three-point field goals made
70.5% on free throws
Tied for most wins in a season with 23

In order for a team to be successful there are always amazing individual accomplishments as well,” said the coach. “Each one of our players did an amazing job owning her role and doing what was needed for our team to be the best it could be.”

We only give out one award as a program and that is the Bravette Pride Award,” Burgess said. “This goes to the lady who is selfless, willing to do whatever for the team and a true example of a Bravette.

Madelyn DeJong (42) . . . Bravette Pride Award recipient.

The winner this year is Madelyn DeJong.”

Our individual statistical awards are pretty awesome as well,” Burgess said.

Maddy McKeag made 8 three-point field goals during a tournament game, which tied for the most made in a game.”

Elise Boulton made 9 three-pointers during the next tournament game which is the most threes made in a game,” said the coach.

Elise Boulton made 74 threes this season, the most made in a single season,” Burgess said.

Elise Boulton has made 304 threes in her career (through her junior year) which is the most made in a career,” said the coach.

Shateah Wetering finished her career as our Montezuma Bravettes all-time leading scorer with 1,558 points,” Burgess said.

Shateah finished in the top 10 in overall records in the following categories:”

1st in field goal attempts: 1,154
1st in field goals made: 645
2nd in field goal percentage: 56.89%
2nd in free throw attempts: 264

2nd in rebounds: 538
2nd in defensive rebounds: 363
2nd in offensive rebounds: 218
4th in assists: 220
5th in steals: 241

Our program was successful because each young lady embraced her role,” Burgess said. “We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to coach each Bravette.”

We look forward to celebrating our season together in the near future,” said the coach. “Please stay safe and create memories as a family during this unique time.”
